Archeological Trip: We will travel to the Casa Grande National Park where we will explore the ruins of the Native Americans dating back to 300AD. After a long battle with the desert, the ancient building still commands respect. Four stories high and 60 feet long, it is the largest structure known to exist in Hohokam times. Early Spanish explores called it Casa Grande (The Great House) and to them it was a mystery. It’s walls face the four cardinal points of the compass. A circular hole in the upper west wall aligns with the setting sun during the summer solstice. Who were these people, why did they build here, how did they build this “Great House?” And more importantly, what became of them?

Pictograhs/Petroglyphs: We will begin our trek at Saguaro National Park West where we will hike into King’s Canyon. Here we will find ancient drawings and learn of the culture and history of “the ones from before.”

Birding: We will travel to Madera Canyon for some of the best birding in the country. Southern Arizona’s canyons are famous for the diversity of bird species. Following a Pacific flyway, birds from the North and South American continents stop and stay in this naturally protected canyon for food and water.

    Yoga/Meditation Class (2 hours)

Day Three:

Breakfast for two

Guided hike into Ventana Canyon (8:00am to noon)
